Coffee shops are many things – a ritual, a daily highlight, a third place – and they’re a hugely important piece of the city’s fabric. That’s why we tapped Ellie Eckert, founder of Disco Disco Coffee, to expand our guide with a few of her favorites.

Enter this pink atmosphere and try some really delicious light roast coffees. The space kind of looks like it jumped off a record cover, if that makes sense.

Three Legged Cat

East Williamsburg

Named for Pirate, the three-legged cat, they feature a rotating selection of some of the best coffee roasters like Onyx out of Arkansas.

Larry’s Ca Phe

East Williamsburg

On a side street of East Williamsburg lies Larry's diligently crafting up experimental, Vietnamese coffee. This is such a sweet spot and they often display art from the local community – including photographers from frequent coolstuff.nyc collaborator Eric Do.

PPL

Williamsburg

PPL is a plant-covered cafe serving Japanese matcha and coffee is a secret oasis on the block.

IXV

Boerum Hill

This zero-waste and eco-conscious cafe is nuzzled right in an apartment building’s garage and stocks a selection of reworked and sustainable fashion alongside other zero waste products. (Say hey to Jenny if you go!)

Octavia

Cobble Hill

Jewel-box sized coffee shops are what keep the city caffeinated in the ever-tight quarters we live in. Octavia uses the small space to it's advantage by creating a great place to become a regular. And when you return, be sure to “clock-in” your visit!

SEY

Bushwick

Bushwick’s place for coffee. Funky, unique beans & an open-air space you could sit in for hours. One of the greatest highlights of having a coffee at SEY is when you're handed a tray with three things: coffee, a coffee cup, and a glass of chilled sparkling water.

Petit Paulette

Fort Greene

On a summer day, this is the the spot you want to sit outside in order to feel like you’re sipping an espresso at a Parisian café. In the winter, the warm glow of the neon sign can serve as a substitute for the dwindling sunlight.

Manhattan

Café Integral

Nolita

This underrated Nolita cafe by the same folks from Barbichette wines serves up Nicaraguan coffees roasted and brewed to perfection.

MCM Coffee

FiDi

Financial district's best shop focuses on serving up Uruguayan coffee and handmade ceramics in a small space.

The Mandarin

Chinatown

Perhaps the newest coffee shop in the city at the time of writing, The Mandarin is a wonderful Asian-owned addition to the city’s coffee landscape.

Gotham Coffee Roasters

Union Square / Flatiron

Gotham is Ellie's personal favorite for espresso and espresso-based drinks. They take coffee seriously here, but aren't afraid to put specials on the menu like an espresso tonic or their signature snake bite – a shot of espresso pulled over a piece of dark chocolate.

Devoción

Union Square

Walk just half a block off of broadway and into a plant/coffee oasis across the city with v delicious Colombian roasts. Extra points for being one of the most efficient coffe shops in the city; don't let even the longest of lines deter you!

Abraço

East Village

This place is an absolute anchor for the East Village and even serves Spanish vermouths in the evening. The correct order is a quick coffee to-go with a slice of the world’s best olive oil cake.

Bar Pisellino

West Village

An Italian escape in the WV, we're here to tell you that Bar Pisellino is more than just Negronis which made them famous. Whether you're planning to visit on a weekend or weekday, the earlier the better to snag a table at Pisellino. If you want to be a true Italian grab a caffe corretto – a shot of espresso and a shot of sambuca together.

Felix Roasting Co

Kips Bay & SoHo

The prettiest coffee shop designed by Ken Foulk, and with two locations in the city, Felix transports you into a Wes Anderson daydream of a coffee shop.

Little Canal

Chinatown

Their cold brew is perfect to help you perk back up after a long night out...and if that doesn't work, order a hangover wrap (featured on our best breakfast sandwiches list!)

Queens

Little Flower

Astoria

This Afghan coffee shop is the place to go if you want super unique pastries! We love to perk up with a brew from here after enjoying a large lunch at their sister kebab shop a few doors down.

Coffee Project

Long Island City

Total coffee-nerd level coffee, this place is for those who appreciate true experts that think about coffee in terms of grams. Coffee Project is also a great place to take classes if you're looking to learn more about coffee!
