Where did your fascination with cooking begin?
I come from an Italian-American family, and food was just always there. It was all we talked about and all we did was cook. My mom remembers having me on the counter top while she cooked - I insisted on getting my hands into everything. My grandparents on both sides were amazing cooks. Their entire basements were kitchens. It was incredible. I would sit on the stairs leading down to the basement and watch them as they worked their magic. There is no place I would rather be than in the kitchen.
What's your favorite part about the New York creative community?
The way they rally together to make change. 2020 has been a year of change, of activism and of coming together. I have never seen anything like it. Black Lives Matter created so many incredibly creative things. Pride went from parties to protest. Fundraisers were everywhere and creatives were using whatever they had in their skillset to help others. i have not been immune to this, if you had told me that I would launch a recipe website and a raise over 20k with a charity merch line in 2020 i would have never believed you. This creativity has not stopped or slowed down, and I continue to be in awe of my community.
What's inspiring you right now?
This year has been wild for me, as my recipes have become shared, spread and cooked by so many people for the first time. My inspiration right now comes from seeing people cook my recipes and engaging in conversation with them about what worked, what didn't work, and what they changed to make the recipe their own. I am the luckiest girl in the world to be able to converse in this way about my creations, and to have them become so many beautiful things in the hands of others. I love it and I hope it never ends.
