Meet Emma, a New York-based fashion photographer whose ethereal work has graced the pages of magazines like Vogue, and ad campaigns around the city. We caught up with Emma to hear how New York and its luscious light inspires her work.

How did you start your career as a fashion photographer?
My career in fashion photography started as soon as I could, and that was in college while I attended SCAD. I was quite impatient to get out into the world and start shooting, so I went ahead and started taking it seriously while I had time at school to really focus and refine my portfolio. I was submitting every project I worked on to small zines and publications. From doing that, I received a lot of positive feedback and it kind of flourished from there into more jobs which I am endlessly grateful for. My weakness of being an extremely impatient person really pushed me into the right direction for once.

What's your favorite part about the New York creative community?

My favorite part about the New York creative community is how abundant it can be. You never know who you will meet, but there's a pretty good chance you'll find some connection between the two of you. Whether you're on set, at a bar, at the park, wherever - creative opportunities are always present and at your fingertips, it's just a matter of time and place.

What's inspiring you right now?

Right now what has been inspiring me is the light throughout the city. The sunsets this summer have been so golden, warming up the whole city. I love to see the little corners where light finds its way through the buildings, or how the skyscrapers become massive reflectors at certain times of day. Natural light is capable of such wild things, and it is always changing. That is what I love about it and that's why I try so hard to recreate it in my work. I want to live in that light forever and show everyone else what I saw. Light is the truly most magical thing to me.
