How did you start Jiu Jie, your knot pillow brand?
I started making knot cushions in 2016 when I first moved to NYC from Shanghai. It was initially a hobby, I was gifting them to friends and family on special occasions and kept getting asked where I was selling them. Coming from a fashion background I always knew I wanted to have my own brand so eventually created the online store in 2018 and started working full time on them during the quarantine in 2020.
What's your favorite part about the New York creative community?
I love how individually creative everyone is and seeing my peers growing together and achieve the goals I have seen them work so hard to achieve. I always appreciate people in NYC who are open to collaborating and bouncing off creative ideas. I'm a firm believer that we grow in clusters and feel absolutely privileged to be considered part of such a thriving and diverse community.
