This boutique hotel, re-opened in 2022, is located inside a former 1890’s estate and has been thoughtfully designed and curated by California-based design studio, Field Theory. The hotel has an eclectic mix of vintage furniture, art, and antique rugs and the cocktail lounge and restaurant serves up delish small plates and cocktails that really are some of the best in the area! Oh, and did we mention the cozy fireplace in the lobby?
One of the only bars open 7 days a week in Tannersville, great for even when you aren’t staying at Lilien. The menu is eclectic with a little something for everyone, including our favorite: the coconut milk chicken curry. Don’t forget to polish off the meal with one of the bar’s signature cocktails.
Located in nearby Hunter, Fellow Cafe is our perfect pick for breakfast or lunch. The breakfast sandwich on housemade bread with local sausage is a great compliment to a strong craft coffee. Grab a baguette for the road.
For a casual bite in Tannersville, Mama’s Boy is a town staple. Try the chopped cheese after a long day on the mountain!
A magical beacon of light, as we were entering Shandaken Bakery a wise older patron held the door open for us and said, “you’re entering the best bakery in the world.” The kind owner, Craig, has meticulously crafted a calming mountain top spot, complete with hand-made paper decorations to enjoy as you sip a coffee and devour a pastry.
Fred’s is a drive-thru coffee & donut spot that feels straight out of a 50’s mountain magazine. A wonderful place to get your upstate Apple Cider Donut fix.
This is Tannersville’s nicest restaurant, and we believe that every trip deserves at least one splurge. Tabla serves up a mediterranean-focused menu that highlights the best of what upstate has to offer. In the warmer months, Tabla has a beautiful patio to sit on that is perched over top of a mountain creek - what more could you ask for?
This shop has a wonderful collection of objects ranging from splatterware bowls for the kitchen, quilted pillows, and French laundry products.
Sometimes antique stores can feel too high end OR too junky but somehow Tannersville Antiques strikes the perfect balance between “don’t touch that” and “this is so cheap.”
Are mountain sports your thing? A very short drive from Tannersville lies Hunter Mountain which is one of the best mountains to ski, snowboard, or tube in the Catskills.
This is one of upstate's most famous hikes for a reason – it’s beautiful! When the weather warms up, this is one of the best places to be in the Catskills.
(Take the rail trail from Haines Falls Historical Society)
This park is a GREAT place to sled and if you happen to be staying at Hotel Lilien, the hotel provides a complimentary SLED MENU for guests to borrow a sled of their choice! They also offer snow shoes for snow-shoeing around the property.
With locations in Kingston and New Paltz, Moon Burger is one of the best burgers in New York…and it’s meat-free. If you take the Palisades Parkway to Tannersville, take a little break off of I-87 and get a bite at the Kingston Moon Burger. You can thank us later.
On your way back to the city, try to take the route down the East Side of the hudson so you can stop by the Magazzino Museum to eat and take in Italian art and the surrounding landscape. Truly an idyllic way to spend an afternoon, Magazzino is a perfect operation. If you end up going, make absolutely sure to visit Cafe Silvia to enjoy the wonderfully inspired cuisine by chef Luca Galli.
